Dussehra or Das-Hara symbolizes the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana, the ten-headed demon who ruled over Lanka. In many parts of India, Dussehra marks the end of a 9-day long grand event of festivities and devotion to Goddess Durga.
During these 9 holy days, all forms of Goddess Durga are earnestly worshipped by the Hindus. According to legends, Mahishasura was a powerful demon who leads the demon army to overthrow the Gods from heaven and began to rule over Earth. To end his dictatorship, all the Gods coalesced their energy to form a divine force of supreme energy, Goddess Durga. Adorned with 10 hands and 10 weapons, she rode on a lion and killed Mahishasura to restore balance to the Earth. Every year, people celebrate Dussehra to commemorate the victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura as well. On this year’s Dussehra date 19th October 2018, Hindus from all parts of India will take part in the celebrations enthusiastically. On this auspicious day, people seek the blessings of Gods and embark on new ventures.
Dussehra is the festival which is celebrated by the Hindu faith people and it is celebrated just 20 days before the major festival called as Diwali. On Dussehra Lord Rama Killed the demon Ravana, thus ending the cruel regime of him on earth. The whole events the unfolded up to this event is written in the Holy Scripture called as Ramayana. Idols of Maa Durga are immersed in water also called as Visarjan. In different states of India, celebrating Dussehra festival is having different ways for it, but the unique thing is that fun and happiness are common to all and that is what defines this festival.
